KIDNAP AND RANSOM COVERAGE
contains four insuring agreements. The first is the primary insuring agreement that pays for extortion and ransom demands. The rest of the agreements cover supplementary expenses that occur because of a kidnap or extortion demand. These include expenses incurred because of kidnap, extortion, detention or hi-jack. The theft, disappearance, confiscation or destruction of the property when it is being delivered by a messenger to the persons making the ransom or extortion demands is also covered. Two unusual features of this coverage is the requirement that existence of the coverage be kept secret and that a security company fees and expenses are paid outside of the limits of insurance when listed on the declarations but inside the limits when not listed. The first requirement prevents the insured from becoming a target, while the second requirement rewards the named insured who has a plan in place before an incident occurs so that immediate action can be taken when an extortion or kidnap occurs.
