EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWN PROTECTION COVERAGE has three separate parts: damage from an accident to covered items; damage to the other property of the named insured caused by an accident to the items covered; and loss of income due to damage to the items covered and/or damage to other insured property. The items covered consist of boilers and other heating devices. Most machinery and equipment, including electronic data processing devices, can also be included. Many insurance companies that write this coverage use proprietary forms and policies but their structure and coverage is similar to the ISO version.
An important point to note is that the party(ies) served by steam boilers, steam pipes, steam turbines or steam engines, but who do not own, lease or operate such objects, may not need this coverage because their property is covered by the property insurance they carry for the explosion cause of loss. However, they should consider purchasing the coverage for other types of machinery and equipment that they do own, operate or lease, which may be better covered under this form than the building and personal property coverage form.
(Use ACORD Form #155)
